Class experience
Each week students will learn about an African American/Afro-Caribbean artist and make art inspired by the artist style. At the beginning of class students will learn about the artist works and artistic style. Students will interpret the artist style and apply that to their own artwork. For the remainder of class students will work on their artworks using a guided prompt and step by step instruction. Some students may not finish their artwork during class, this is okay. Students will improve their knowledge and art appreciation for African art from around the world, both from historical and contemporary times. Students are introduced to various art materials, forms and art skills.
***This is a general list of art materials for this course, which are listed above. You may have most of these items at home already.**** Acrylic Paint (red, blue, yellow, white and black colors) Brands like Craft Smart and/or Americana work well. Watercolor Set (Brands like Creatology work well) Paint Brush (Brands like Creatology or Craft Smart work well) Markers Crayons Pencils Color Pencils Construction or Colorful Paper (8.5" x 11" sized sheets. We will cut/tear the paper into smaller pieces so if you want to recycle construction or colorful paper this is perfect.) Scissors Glue Mixed Media Art Notebook (please no larger than 8.5" x 11") Blank Paper (8.5" x 11" sized sheets.)
