Class Experience

The children will learn the names and sounds of the letters of the alphabet, including long and short vowel sounds, and the hard and soft sounds for "g", "c", and "x". They will learn new vocabulary as we talk about things with which they may not be familiar.
Starting a week later, this class will be followed up by "Reading Through Writing" wherein they will learn to use their new knowledge of the letters and their sounds for beginning to write descriptions and stories, or anything that they wish.
The continuity of these two classes will strengthen their reading and writing skills, and their ability in both will build quickly. They will learn to interact kindly with each other and to do their very best work, using lots of color and their imaginations to make their pictures and stories nice.
Their homework is to finish coloring anything that they didn't finish in the class time, and to neatly use a washable marker to trace the alphabet and numerals, twice a week. These can be checked over by the parents and photos of the finished work may be emailed to me. They can also see if they have one thing to share for the sound of the next day.
Necessary supplies are crayons, magic markers, and/or colored pencils, at least 40 4X6 cards with at least one side that is blank, a pencil, a stapler, a one gallon freezer bag to put the tracing paper inside, a damp cloth for cleaning the letter/numeral paper at home, small tip washable magic marker, at least one, for the tracing, something such as a folder for storing the finished work papers, and something nice for keeping their alphabet cards clean and safe.
I will provide the letter-of-the-day papers and the tracing sheet for your child to use during the class.
The children will be given praise for a job well done and will be given encouragement to improve what they are doing.
2 hours 30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
