Class Experience
This will be a series of four classes over four weeks. Each week you will receive about a thirty minute presentation from me that utilizes both Power Point and exciting "on the spot" videos pulled from YouTube. Visual learning techniques will be used very heavily to help stir the imagination of your child. Each week you will be given two interactive assignments that will be completed and posted on the message board for response from me and fellow students. I will give feedback for each assignment and students will be encouraged every week to comment and "like" other students content. Plus, students are encouraged to post extra credit assignments and unresolved questions each week as part of their assignments. Finally, with parent request, live office hours will be available each week. Week One - The basics of weather. We'll look at our atmosphere and the 15 Craziest Things that it creates. We'll also take a dip into one of my favorite aspects of weather: Clouds. As soon as your child understands what clouds are, they will never look at the sky the same again. Week 2: The next level of weather like cold fronts, and forecast models, but also a look at how we forecast weather using satellites and radar. Week 3: Hurricanes. How do they form? Where do they form? How do we know when they are going to happen? We'll fly inside a hurricane on YouTube with a hurricane hunting airplane and see what's it's like to fly into the eye wall. Week 4: Tornadoes! It's one of the most epic showdowns in the skies! It's the clash of hot and cold over our heads and often times, right on the ground! We'll watch what it's like to be actually inside a tornado and explain why the United States has the most tornadoes of any country on earth.
