- Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? - The Giving Tree - The Lorax - Strega Nona - Where the Wild Things Are - A Light in the Attic What do these books (and thousands more like them) have in common? They've all been banned at one time or another. I don't know about you, but that just makes me want to read them even more! Let's get our rebellion on and read together, laugh together, discuss together, and maybe learn a little something along the way. We will not be limited to just...
I am an experienced high school English teacher and homeschooling mama with a passion for education, literature, critical thought, and intersectionality.
Any and all necessary materials will be provided in class. If you have copies of banned books that you'd like to share that week, please feel free to bring them. If you want to check out the books from the library, feel encouraged to do so.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Reasons for the banning of these books will be discussed, so sex, LGBTQIA+, profanity, etc. may be named. Questions on the more sensitive topics will be referred back to parents to deal with in whatever way you see fit, but know that they may come up in conversation, in videos, on lists, etc. in factual, non-judgmental ways.
