Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 3
Beginner Level
This is an ongoing Book Club where we discuss books 6 -10 books of the Junie B. Jones series. Even though discussion prompts are given, this social club will be mostly student-led. Each week, students should come to our club meeting time having read Junie B. Jones's book being discussed that week. Students will also be given a Welcome prompt each week to share at the beginning of class. I may also add a craft or game to go with the story we are reading that week. You will receive a message at least 24 hours in advance if any extra supplies are needed.

Week 1: Welcome Prompt: What is your favorite Junie B. Jones book?
Junie B. Jones and That Meanie Jim's Birthday (Book 6)

Week 2 Welcome Prompt: Junie B. Jones loved jokes. Bring a clean, age-
an appropriate joke to share in the club.
Junie B. Jones Loves Handsome Warren (Book 7)

Week 3 Welcome Prompt: Junie B. Jones loved jokes. Bring a clean, age-
an appropriate joke to share in the club.
Junie B. Jones Has a Monster Under Her Bed. (Book 8)

Week 4 Welcome Prompt: Play a game of I-Spy.
Junie B. Jones Is Not a Crook (Book 9)

Week 5 September 14 Welcome Prompt: Share a picture or drawing of your least favorite food.
Junie B. Jones is a Party Animal (Book 10)

As a teacher, I strive to create an environment where all club members feel welcomed and are given opportunities to talk and share, with many smiles and laughs along the way. We will start the class with an engaging “Welcome” prompt and then begin discussing the book for the week. Students will be encouraged through the club to think about their reading. Connections will be made through text-to-self, text-to-text, and text-to-world. This strategy promotes engagement while reading and, in turn, a deeper understanding of the text.
