In this class, students will learn how to prepare their pets for a disaster. We will discuss types of natural disasters that may create the need for evacuation and other scenarios where they may need to "shelter in place". We will use the lack of preparedness during Hurricane Katrina in the Gulf Coast of the U.S. as an example as to why so many pets were lost or killed. Students will learn how to create a disaster preparedness plan for their pet as well as how to build a pet first aid kit and...
I am a Certified Humane Education Specialist through the Academy of Prosocial Learning, a Certified Pet First Aid Instructor through the Pennsylvania Animal Response Team and a Certified High School Counselor in the State of Pennsylvania.
Learners are encouraged to build their own pet first aid and evacuation kit after completing the class. This is not required to take the class.
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
We will discuss disaster scenarios where pets were killed or injured such as Hurricane Katrina. This may be sensitive material for students who have experienced a disaster or evacuation situation.
