Class Experience

Why take a study course?
Every student is different. Some students are visual learners and some prefer learning through listening. Sometimes, a student struggles in school due to a lack of study methods. Flashcards, charts, diagrams, recording yourself talking, and more: these are all ways people learn. Learning is a personal experience, and often in school we feel like we have to use the study methods everyone else is using! Sometimes, taking notes and paying attention in class isn't enough, because you have to cater to your needs. In this class, we will learn about different methods we can use to study, pass exams and retain what we learn.
The class size is small, so we can all share our experiences with each other and create a safe environemt for everyone.

Why am I teaching this course?
In my first two years of high school I struggled with grades and concentration problems. I enjoyed learning, but when it was time to take the test, I would freeze and forget everything! I started researching study methods, and decided to try some of them out. My senior year of high school I had an A+ average while taking 3 AP courses. My college years were extremely busy and I worked to learn how to prepare for massive exams. I have studied both in the United States and in Italy, therefore I have experienced contrasting learning environemtns. My diverse learning experience has allowed me to develop strong study skills, and I am able to adapt study techniques based on the context of each class. I want my students to do the same! I used to struggle with learning, and today, I am a teacher! I want to help students do their best in class.

Structure of the class:
- We will start class by introducing ourselves and students will have the opportunity to discuss a subject they struggle or what they want to improve.
- We will then dive into different types of learners and why the same study method isn't for everyone.
- We will look at study methods they can use: recording yourself speaking, mind maps, flashcards, act like the teacher, and more.
- We will do a hands on project where students will create a mind-map of a topic of their choice to practice segmentartion of important information.
- We will make a study plan for the course they struggle with.

*Students will have 10 minutes in class to draw and create their mind map. During this time I will be making my own mind-map to share with the group. We will work with some relaxing background music, but students may also ask me questions. If students prefer to work in silence, I will adapt to their needs.

Materials and pre-class prep:
- A piece of paper
- Pens
- Different colored markers
- Students will make a mind map on a topic of their choice, they can use any topic they want and it doesn't have to be academic.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I am an Italian-American teacher who grew up between Florence, Italy and Pennsylvania USA. I am an Italian as a second language and ESL teacher with over six years of teaching experience. I am a native Italian and English speaker, and grew up in a bilingual household. I love teaching kids of all ages and throughout my teaching career; I have taught students from ages 3-18. I have been teaching Italian on Outschool for two years and love sharing my passion for languages with my students. I currently create and teach Italian and English classes in creative ways through interactive slides, games, art, and more. My greatest passion is teaching, and I want to make the classroom a fun environment for my students!

I have a B.A. and M.A. in Communication Science, a TESOL certificate, and an Italian language C2 certification. I recently graduated with my Master's in Marketing Management. I also have worked with children for years teaching multiple age groups and many subjects in English and Italian. I have created my own curriculum and have a unique teaching style which follows a hands-on approach.

My teaching style is fun, engaging and personal. I want to get to know my students and I want their class time with me to be a complete learning experience that focuses on hands-on learning.

So why study languages? Why study Italian or English? Language development is fundamental for young learners. Foreign language studies also peak curiosity in learners, both younger and older. Italian is a useful language nowadays, not just for the language but also to improve logic, language arts, and it can serve as a starting point for other Latin languages. English is a necessary language today for life and for work. I hope to bring my passion for this beautiful language into your child's life.

I offer a variety of courses. I love Outschool, because I can teach my language, but also my passions, such as marketing, social studies, and more! I hope to see your learner in my classroom soon.
