-- Official Description: Famed explorer Volothamp Geddarm needs you to complete a simple quest. Thus begins a mad romp through the wards of Waterdeep as you uncover a villainous plot involving some of the city’s most influential figures. A grand urban caper awaits you. Pit your skill and bravado against villains the likes of which you’ve never faced before, and let the dragon hunt begin! -- Dungeons and Dragons is is collaborative storytelling game. It is a game of vast possibilities where you learn to think carefully, to plan, to strategize, to persuade, to resolve conflict, and so much more, all while exploring memorable locales, meeting fascinating NPCs, and defeating truly frightening enemies. This course will give students a great deal of experience in the details, rules, and mechanics of dungeons and dragons but, again, I do not recommend this as a student's first campaign. In the course students will also grow close with the other students they are adventuring with and learn more to better communicate, work together, and treat one another with respect. After completing this course, students will be confident in the rules of D&D and can continue on to another adventure or begin running one of their own for friends. Please note that this is an ongoing course as it is impossible to give a specific number of meetings because that depends how the story develops in the hands of the students. Compared to other campaigns, though, this is considered a medium-length campaign (meaning likely 3+ months). If you must leave at some point, please don't worry about your fellow classmates. We will exit your character and bring in another student in a way that progresses the story. Note: You must have your video on for these sessions and be unmuted as often as you can. D&D is a game of community and collaboration, of experiencing, struggling, and laughing together. If you cannot actively participate, please do not enroll. Reach out to me if you have questions about this.

Parental Guidance
Though there is combat in this game, it is described in words, not images. I will also ask and require students to be conscious of their descriptions, avoiding anything grotesque or inhumane.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Sources
To prepare and run this course, I will use my experience and knowledge of (as well as references to) "The Player's Handbook", "The Dungeon Master's Guide", "The Monster Manual", and the module "Waterdeep: Dragon Heist".
Teacher expertise and credentials
I have spent much time playing in and running Dungeons and Dragons campaigns. I also have much experience teaching D&D to new players. As far as teaching children goes, I've spent over a decade teaching ages 8-18 in the classroom and have served in many roles from Master Teacher to Curriculum Developer to Network Trainer to Academy Headmaster (all with Great Hearts Academies).
