1-2 hours per week. Each lesson will contain a hands-on component for students to complete. Students are not required to post their final art pieces, but it will be strongly encouraged.Assessment
Students have the option to post their art work in the classroom for evaluation. Please note that I will not evaluate how closely they stuck to the patterns. Zentangle patterns are abstract and part of the Zentangle Method states, "there are no mistakes in Zentangle." I will, however, assess their watercolor and shading techniques and provide feedback and pointers to help them refine their abilities.Class Experience
Beginner - Advanced Level
Develop watercolor skills while exploring The Zentangle Method of drawing through two projects that combine the two art forms. We will learn watercolor wash methods, pattern drawing skills, and shading/highlight techniques and use those skills to create two projects. This class is perfect for beginning and advanced artists and can easily scale to challenge any level of ability. Students will learn about color theory and apply their knowledge to creating a series of watercolor washes using several techniques. They'll also experience the Zentangle Method by creating a guided design with several abstract patterns. After working on each methodology separately, students will learn how to combine them. They'll pick their favorite watercolor washes from the first week and create two different Zentangle pattern designs, called tangles, with them. The Zentangle Method® asks us to quiet our inner critic and take each part of the drawing one pen stroke at a time. The patterns are learn-as-you-go so students will be encouraged to draw along with me as I teach them. For both projects, students can follow my design or create their own. The repeated pattern drawing of The Zentangle Method® relaxes and calms the mind. Part of each lesson will include aspects of the method. One aspect of the method involves appreciation, students will be encouraged to share their work in the classroom and comment on their own work and that of others. I will provide public feedback as well. I will maintain a safe, positive, and respectful environment so that students feel comfortable sharing their work. This is a self-paced class, so there are no live classes. Students will be given a series of lesson videos to walk them through the patterns, technique, and design. They should expect to spend 1 - 2 hours each week on the lessons and their art work. I check on my self-paced classes on Monday afternoons (eastern time) and review work then. Students can always send me messages if they would like me to look at something sooner or if they have questions. I typically respond within one business day - sometimes much sooner.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a Certified Zentangle Teacher (CZT). I am trained in the Zentangle Method® and the best practices for teaching the art form. I decided to pursue the certification after several years of working with Zentangle patterns in my own art pieces. I regularly create designs in both black & white and color. I particularly enjoy using colored pencils, watercolors, and chalk pastels in my creations.
