In this class, we will explore a few watercolor techniques that will help you create your very own imaginary creatures. We will play a surrealist game that guides our unexpected monster creations!
Class experience
This will be an interactive art class that encourages children to experiment with different ways of painting monsters through games and experimentation with watercolors. They will get a chance to share their art and contribute to the conversation and ideas throughout the games and challenges. Students will learn several watercolor techniques including color mixing, wet-on-wet, lifting pigment, dot painting and using salt with watercolor as they make their unique monsters. We will play a painting game to create one monster, and then we will create our own monsters using the techniques we learned while playing the game.
It's important that you have actual watercolor paint and watercolor paper for this class. The watercolor techniques learned in this class WILL NOT work if you have regular paper and a different type of paint. Please be sure to have these materials ready to go before class begins: - watercolor paint (can be a simple watercolor set) -3 pieces of watercolor paper -water jar with water -watercolor paintbrush(es) -a dab cloth or paper towel -a work mat to place watercolor paper on -a black fine-point sharpie pen or marker -a q-tip -a teaspoon of salt in a little dish -playing dice (optional)
