My watercolor painting class combines creativity with fun themes like famous artists and animals! Each session combines essential watercolor techniques with hands-on projects, fostering self-expression and artistic growth.

1 hour per week. Each week, students will complete an in-class project. They are encouraged but not required to practice their new skills in watercolor painting outside of class or finish that day's painting project on their own time. I will offer students the opportunity to share the work they've completed outside of class at the beginning of every class.Grading
Students will build an art portfolio throughout their time in my class. At the end of our time together, students will have the opportunity to share the work they're proud of in a class art show! I will also give them the chance to share (optional for the student) what they enjoyed most about the class, their favorite theme/project, etc.Class Experience
Are you ready for a colorful adventure? In my watercolor class, your child will dive into the magical world of watercolor painting, where creativity and fun come together in every brushstroke! What I’ll Teach: Watercolor Basics: We'll start with the essentials of watercolor painting, from mixing colors to understanding how water changes the look of paint. Your child will learn how to handle brushes, experiment with different techniques, and discover the joy of blending and layering colors. Themed Art Projects: Each week, we'll explore exciting themes such as painting adorable animals, creating vibrant nature scenes, and even drawing inspiration from famous artists. The projects are designed to be engaging and age-appropriate, making every class an opportunity for your child to create something special. Art Techniques: I'll introduce fun techniques like “wet-on-wet” and “dry brush” to help your child achieve beautiful effects. Through hands-on practice, kids will learn how to make their paintings come alive with texture and color. How I'll Teach: Interactive Demonstrations: I’ll guide the class with easy-to-follow demonstrations, showing step-by-step how to create each piece of art. Children will have the chance to see techniques in action and ask questions as we go along. Creative Exploration: Each class encourages experimentation and personal expression. While following along with the theme, kids will have the freedom to add their unique touches, helping them build confidence and find their artistic voice. Supportive Environment: My classroom is a friendly space where creativity thrives. I’ll provide individual support and encouragement, ensuring that every child feels inspired and proud of their artwork. What Learners Should Expect: Fun and Engagement: Expect lots of laughter and excitement as we explore the vibrant world of watercolor together. Each class is designed to be enjoyable and educational, leaving kids with a sense of accomplishment and a beautiful piece of art to take home. Activities: Create a color wheel using watercolors. Experiment with mixing to create new shades.

Other Details
Pre-Requisites
There are no requirements for this class. However, if you enroll late I recommend that you review my lessons on the basics of watercolor painting with your child (I will gladly provide a summary from my previous classes for you to review!).
Supply List
-Watercolor paint palette (you can find these at your local art store (or specific grocery or retail stores) -Watercolor paintbrush (you can have as many or as few as you desire! Some watercolor palettes come with a brush) -Watercolor paper (you can find these at your local art store (or specific grocery or retail stores). Sometimes mixed media paper works with watercolor but the results may not be the same/work with watercolor paints on watercolor paper -pencil(s) -eraser -cup for water (to wash brush) -paper towels or a reusable rag/towel for drying the brush

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Art and Design from Arizona State University
I have experience with learning and applying techniques related to the fine arts, such as watercolor painting, acrylic painting, drawing, etc. I also have training in 3-D animation, which includes storytelling, character design, and the study and application of body mechanics in 3-D character animation. I gained these experiences and training throughout high school and college.
