Class Experience

This one time class will introduce students to watercolor painting by teaching them how to paint 2-3 watercolor Christmas cards. No prior knowledge or experience with watercolor or painting is necessary. This class is for novice artists and any student who is curious about painting!

Students will gain basic knowledge about how to use watercolor paints while having a great time expressing their creativity! During instruction, I will have one camera filming my own painting as I create it. A second camera will continue to film my face as I explain each step to learners. Having two camera feeds will help students succeed whether they are visual or auditory learners.

Students are encouraged to ask relevant questions at any time during the lesson by pressing the "raise your hand" button or typing questions in the chat box. Students will paint at least two cards; but if enough time remains, we will paint a third, as well! At the end of the lesson, students will be invited to share their creations with their classmates.
Learning Goals
Students will learn the basics of "wet-on-wet" watercolor painting by experimenting with paints and water as they create their cards. Learners will also develop beginning skills in working with watercolor paints in pans. For example, they will learn how to use different amounts of water to create colors that are more or less saturated.

Supply List
Supplies for this class include:
-kid's watercolor paints in at least 5-6 colors
**Pans of dry watercolor are preferred. Any brand will work, but I recommend avoiding Crayola as the pigment is quite lacking and tends to cause artists to feel frustrated when trying to use them. At my local craft store, I was able to find a lovely set of store brand paints for under $10.)

-watercolor paper (Before class, please trim to the size of your desired card. I would suggest 4x4 inches or 4x6 inches if you are unusure.)

- round paintbrush (one will suffice, but it may be helpful to have two in different sizes)

-cup of water (to clean brushes)

- a papertowel

-black waterproof marker (a sharpie will suffice)

Optional Supplies (mostly for adding finishing touches to cards)
-spray bottle filled with water (to moisten the paints)

-metallic gel pens (I recommend silver and gold from Uniball Signo in the BOLD tip size)

-white gel pen

-puffy paint or liquid perrles

-glitter glue

-rhinestones or crystals

-glue

-ruler

*NOTE: Feel free to gather any supplies that you think you might like to use to decorate your Christmas cards! Your creativity is encouraged!

I am proud to come from a family of educators and have years of experience working with children. My experiences with students have helped me to develop my own teaching philosophy. I believe that every student has the capacity for creativity and that is it MY job to help them discover that creativity and foster its growth. When we nurture students' creativity and encourage their curiosity, they feel joy for learning that extends to every subject! I hope to inspire each of my students to seek out knowledge with joy in their hearts!
In my Outschool classroom, you'll find me teaching many kinds of classes that reflect my interests and expertise! I teach classes about the rainbow, how to make Christmas ornaments and Christmas cards, how to improve your handwriting, how our bodies work, and more! I would be honored to share my classroom with your child and I look forward to meeting them! See you soon!
