This class will be a live session where students will learn how to use a variety of household materials (salt, plastic wrap, and rubbing alcohol) to create a variety of special effects with watercolor paint. Students will follow along with the instructor in real-time to try out each one of these techniques and how they might use them in their own artwork. Students will successfully try three techniques to create special effects with watercolor. They will understand the concept of a wash and observe how colors blend when using wet-on-wet technique.
Watercolors are a versatile medium and there are many special effects that can be created using simple household materials! I have created my own watercolor paintings for many years and enjoy using watercolors with my own students. This course will show students some of these special techniques, which they can then apply to their own work.

Waterclolor paper (another heavy paper like card stock will work!) Watercolor set Brushes Water cup/ water (For rinsing brushes) Salt (can be table salt, but any type of salt will do!) Plastic wrap Rubbing alcohol (I know this is hard to come by right now. Some people said they had results with nail polish remover) Cotton Swabs
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Please note: Students will use a variety of household materials (rubbing alcohol, salt, and plastic wrap) that parents may wish to monitor their child's use of.
