Class Experience

Welcome to Watercolor Pencils an Intro: by The Painting Panda Flex class version.

Watercolor is so beautiful, fluid, versatile, and isn't just a tablet you get wet to paint. Introducing a new tool: Watercolor pencils. These are fun, vibrant, and can be super relaxing once you know how to use them. Join me in a 4 week class where we will learn tips, tricks, and techniques so that we can unlock the creativity and allow our imaginations flow onto paper just as easily, beautifully and fluidly as the tablets we're used to using.

Sharing your learner's work will make this class more interactive, so I can give help, tips and tricks, assessments, and comments. I will post my instruction videos, my step-by-step videos by week each Monday no LATER than 5pm EST. If you are having challenges, and things aren't working with your projects and lessons please contact me ASAP, so I can provide further help. Student's are encouraged to jump into the classroom and start introducing themselves to each other, asking questions, and discuss interests in the classroom. On Wednesdays I'll check into class to see how everyone is doing, answer any questions posted into the classroom that haven't been answered over the weekend, encourage students to interact with each other through various interactive games/ video clips/ and tips that I post in the classroom. On Fridays is Art work submission day for show and tell from the students. I'll check into class to see reminding learners to upload an image or video of their finished projects. Once art work is submitted to the classroom students are encouraged to leave positive comments on their classmate's work, ask each other questions, and have discussions in the classroom. I will also leave my own comments in the classroom for the show and tell.

I will also be able to respond to questions during those days as well. This is an art class, and visual participation is greatly encouraged. As a teacher, I am unable to help a student grow and develop without being able to see the images of the art they do each week. Being able to see what is going on if something doesn't look quite right is also a great way for me to help give better tips and suggestions to help build confidence.

What we will be covering:

Week 1:
Draw first techniques, blend later techniques with a final project to show you have learned this skill: ocean scene

Week 2:
Water first techniques, draw later techniques with a final project to show you have learned this skill: mountain scene

Week 3:
texture versus smooth techniques with a final project to show you have learned this skill: animals

Week 4:

Can't wait to see you in class!

If this is your learner's first Outschool class I recommend getting familiar with the Zoom interface and platform before the class starts. Outschool has a few articles and videos that can help. Unfortunately I am really unable to deal with any technical issues once class has begun and if you are experiencing issues, it's best to contact technical support at Outschool directly via the HELP tab on the website. https://support.outschool.com/en/articles/2133758-live-class-troubleshooting-tips-for-parents https://support.outschool.com/en/articles/802757-tips-for-your-first-outschool-class Hi parents, I have created a really fun interactive classroom through google sheets for one of our extra parts to class. This classroom has images of my own watercolor art that the students get to click on for a fun game or video. The videos are links to youtube videos (some are my own, and others are from kid friendly watercolor themed resources). I have done everything on my end to remove ads, however if you need to do something on your end to remove ads, or stop other videos from playing after the initial one I have linked please have those settings already in place, otherwise you can view along side your child. This is an optional extra your child can participate in, that is really fun.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
This has been one of my more popular Summer Camp classes I've offered to my local Homeschool group, local community during the summer, and even with my adult private lessons. I love teaching watercolor, it's a fun fluid medium where you can be incredibly creative. My favorite part about teaching art classes is when I get to see the world through the eyes of the students by viewing their interpretations of the assignments I give them in class.

As mentioned in my teacher profile I have 10 years of experience teaching early education pre-K classes, in both North Carolina and Utah. I have been able to use my degrees in Visual Arts with a focus on Art History from NCSU and my Associate in Arts from Wake Tech Community College, to teach kids and adults: various art classes here in North Carolina for the past 7 years. With my scouting connections I have had 5 years experience teaching science and history classes in North Carolina and Florida. Whether it was as a Co-Op teacher for my local home school groups, Art merit Badge Counselor for the local Boy Scout clinic, teaching STEAM classes for Cub Scouts, Nail art and Jewelry Crafting to teenage girls in my church, or summer art classes through my business, The Painting Panda, I love being able to share what I have learned!
