This course will introduce students to elements and principles of art and design. With emphasis on deeper understanding of art elements and principles, in each lesson, we will focus on skill building, generating creative ideas, problem solving, and communicating their ideas clearly through art, while exploring numerous drawing techniques. We will be working on our sketch using sketch pencils only. We will begin the class by learning about shading and texture, and doing some basic shading...
Week 1: Discuss and practice basic shading, complete shading exercises. Discuss and practice texture, and complete texture exercises. Week 2: Complete a line drawing of our reference photo. Discuss composition and emphasis. Week 3: Begin to add shading to our drawing. Week 4: Complete the drawing by adding highlights, texture, and remaining shadows.
I have been teaching art for close to 10 years. My focus always was and will remain on the process of making art. It is so important that kids enjoy themselves in their creative expression.
The students should have basic sketching supplies (such as pencil and eraser), and a sketch pad with paper that is approximately 100 lb (not too thin). Reference photos will be provided.
Every assignment, I am happy to provide feedback, identify where the student has struggled, and figure out together how to help them overcome the difficulty and come up with a viable solution.
2 hours 30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
