In this two week watercolor class, novice level artists will learn the techniques used to paint various watercolor cacti and succulent plants using many different styles. We will learn and paint in an engaging and welcoming environment.

This is a fun and engaging art class designed for the novice watercolor artist who loves cacti and wants to learn how to use watercolors to paint different cacti or succulent plants in five different styles. Artists will learn how to draw and paint different types of plants each class. On the sixth and final class, artists will be led through an engaging walk-through on how to sketch and paint all five plants in a small "mini painting" version. The teacher will walk learners through a step by step guide on how to sketch and paint each cacti or succulent plant of the day. The class will be engaging and the teacher will ask fun discussion questions to encourage peer interaction while painting. The four-day itinerary includes the following activities: Day 1: Introduction on how to sketch a Prickly Pear followed by a step by step guide on how to paint this cactus. Day 2: Introduction on how to sketch a Haworthiopsis fasciata followed by a step by step guide on how to paint this succulent. Day 3: Introduction on how to sketch a Hedgehog followed by a step by step guide on how to paint this cactus. Day 4: Introduction on how to sketch a Haworthiopsis limifolia followed by a step by step guide on how to paint this succulent. Day 5: Introduction on how to sketch a Schlumbergera followed by a step by step guide on how to paint this cactus. Day 6: Step by step guide on how to sketch and paint a 'mini' version of each of these plants.
Learning Goals
- Learners will learn to paint in a fun and welcoming environment and follow my step-by-step demonstration to create five different styles of watercolor cactus and succulent.
- Specifically, learners will learn to sketch the painting, blend colors to create shadows and highlights, and create realistic style watercolor plants.

- Watercolor paper (I use medium grain, cold press, 90 lb paper, brand: Daler-Rowney Simply Artists Watercolor Paper Pad) - Watercolor paints (I use the 48 color palette by Mungyo) - Watercolor brush (I use Galiano size 14 and 20) - Paper towel - Container with water to wash brush - Black Sharpie - Painters tape (or Scotch tape) - Hard surface to work on
