Class Experience

US Grade 6 - 9
In this engaging class, we’ll delve into the medium of water color, a unique technique where we paint from light to dark—unlike oil painting, which typically progresses from dark to light.
We’ll begin by honing our drawing skills to create a foundational sketch for our paintings. Once the foundation is complete, we’ll explore the water colour method, layering colors from light to dark. Along the way, we’ll practice mixing colors and learn essential principles of color theory. We will hone our painting skills to enable us to work at an intermediate to advanced level.
Each session will feature a variety of subjects, including flowers, fruit, still life and landscape compositions. To inspire and guide you, the class will start with a brief lecture accompanied by slides. These slides will showcase a finished painting alongside three stages of its development, providing valuable insight into the creative process.

About me
Lynda Diamond

Hello! I’m Lynda Diamond, a dedicated art educator with 16 years of experience teaching art to children, teens, and adults. My art classes focus on building strong foundational skills in painting and drawing. In our sessions, we explore essential concepts like line, color, and form, working with everything from still-life objects like flowers and fruit to abstract, geometric designs.

Art and Digital Arts Classes
In my art classes, we build strong foundational skills in painting, drawing, and digital techniques. Together, we explore essential concepts like line, color, and form, creating everything from still-life objects like flowers and fruit to vibrant digital drawings and abstract, geometric designs. I also produce student exhibitions, giving learners the opportunity to share their work, celebrate their progress, and experience the joy of showcasing their unique artistic voices. My teaching style is light-hearted and engaging—my students often come back because they find the process both enjoyable, inspiring plus educational!

Art History
In my Art History classes, we delve into the evolution of art and its impact on society. With a background in fine art and experience in various techniques, I bring historical concepts to life by connecting them to methods I use in my own work.

Qualifications
I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting from the San Francisco Art Institute, where I studied on a scholarship. I have been teaching drawing and painting for 18 years to students of all ages. In addition to teaching at Nova Scotia Community College and offering private, 1:1 sessions in painting, drawing, and Digital Art, I taught art and English to kids in China for two years. I also led classes in my painting studio for over a decade, helping adult students build confidence and skill in their artwork.

Class Formats
I offer a variety of formats, including one-day workshops, ongoing weekly classes, eight-week courses, and flexible, self-paced (Flex) options. My private 1:1 sessions are tailored to each student’s individual goals and interests.

About Me
I spent 16 years as a working artist in New York City, where I also launched a successful fashion design business specializing in hat collections for all seasons. Additionally, I once traveled to Norway to study with a master painter, gaining skills that continue to enrich my work today—a truly transformative experience!

Learning to paint and draw is fun and rewarding, and I look forward to welcoming your learner to one of my classes!

*****5 Stars

This was a good beginning water color class for my 10 year old. My daughter was usually waiting for the teacher for the next step, so it was slow paced for younger students. Each class was using the same techniques with a different picture.
