Class Experience

Water color can be difficult if you don't know some simple rules to follow. But once you know those rules you can really get the paints to do what you want them to. This is a very simple class to learn painting flowers that will give your child the first level of confidence they will need to try other paintings. They will learn a few techniques that will start them on their way with watercolor painting. They do not need any prior experience just a willingness to listen, follow instructions, and learn.

Learning Goals

My goal with this class is to teach basic watercolors rules so that they are not frustrated when they use watercolor paints. I will be teaching some very basic brush strokes to create a simple bouquet for flowers. We will work along together creating a cute little painting.

Supply List
Supplies needed:
Watercolor pan set (please do not use dollar store types - there is simply very little pigment in them and it will be frustrating for your child) Crayola is a good brand to start with.
2 different soft brushes work well, a thin liner brush, a medium size (1/4 inch almond shaped bristles)
two containers for water one for clean and one to rinse out brushes.
water color paper (must be labeled water color or mixed media paper) Please do not use copier paper.
a thin line black marker for some detail at the end once it dries.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I was an art teacher to grades 4-12 for 9 years. I didn't like to see my students frustrated because frustration is just one step away from giving up and not trying again. It's difficult once you get frustrated to try again. So let's just avoid the frustration all together. I want to encourage them to try new things but teach them that there are ways to work with the paint so that the paints works for them. It will be an enjoyable experience.
