***** This class will run between 20/7/21 and 7/8/21***** Join our 2 pregnant Guinea pigs as they go on the journey from their last week of pregnancy to newborn guinea pigs. We will then watch our new born Guinea pigs grow and develop for the first 2-3 weeks of their life. Guinea pigs are very community minded and share the care of the 2 litters that will be born. This class includes a live feed of the Guinea Pigs so you never have to miss a moment! We will check in with them each...
Learners will learn about the life cycle process from pregnancy to the babies being weaned from their mother. They will learn about how guinea pigs look after their young. Learners will also learn how important it is to treat our animals with care and respect. They will record their learning in their digital portfolio.
I am a qualified early childhood and primary teacher and before this have run a successful science business taking science activities to schools, kinder and youth groups. I am experienced working with learners with diverse needs and am always happy to discuss how to make the class more accessible for your learner. I have run many animal lifecycle classes with real animals in brick and mortar classes as well as some on Outschool and also volunteer at our local sanctuary.
All extra work is optional Learners may choose to watch the live feed at any time. The live feed has inferred lights so that the Guinea pigs can be seen at night without disturbing them. Learners may choose to log on and watch videos each day to keep up to date with what our rabbits are up to. Learners may also choose to do extra work for their portfolio such as drawing pictures or writing observations of our guineapigs but is completely optional.
Access to your book creator portfolio.
Learner will receive a ebook of their portfolio at the end of the session.
1 hour 15 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
IMPORTANT PLEASE READ BEFORE ENROLLING Learners will have the opportunity be observing live guinea pig feeds as well as seeing the guinea pigs live during class. Guinea pigs are live animals and may sometimes act in unexpected ways. This class will follow the progress from pregnancy to birth to weaning. This raises a number of things to be aware of. - If watching the live feed you may see the birth of the guinea pigs. - Just like all animals on rare occasions the babies do not survive the birth. This is rare but is a possibility. - Even more rare but possible the mother guinea pig will sometimes eat a baby that does not survive - If this does happen it will not be shown in class but may be seen if you are watching the live feed. -This class includes the birth of Guinea Pigs. This can be a little messy to watch but is an amazing experience. It will not be shown during class however the recording will be available in the classroom for students to watch. Please reach out with any questions or concerns.
