Description
Class Experience
This writing workshop is for the Warriors fans! Erin Hunter's Warriors series provides great source material for young writers to create both fanfiction (stories using characters or other story elements form the Warriors series) and original works inspired the world of Warriors. From first draft to final draft, workshopping with other writers can improve the quality of your character development, narrative, tone, and authorial voice. With support and feedback from fellow writers, share...
Each writer will set their own goals for the class. All writers will learn to give and receive constructive feedback.
I am a professional writer and editor, an experienced teacher, and a long-time creator and publisher of tabletop roleplaying games. I can guide students through the process of creating dynamic characters. I know the Warriors characters, clans, and code well, and offer ongoing classes, one-time classes, and camps focused on the world of Warriors.
Between meetings, learners should work on the current Warriors-related piece of fiction of their choosing.
Learners should have access to a writing program such as Google Docs or Word, or should come with paper/notebook and a writing implement.
1 hour per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
I often jokingly refer to the Warriors series as "Game of Thrones for children," but it's not entirely off the mark. The Warriors books contain violence, character death, forbidden romances, and other common tropes of fantasy genre literature. Original character backstories may also contain sad or violent elements. Works from students may include characters from diverse backgrounds, such as LGBTQ+, disabled, neurodiverse, and other marginalized groups. If your student is particularly sensitive to a specific topic, please let me know in advance and I will strive to create a safe environment for them.
Writers will benefit most from this class if they have read some or all of Erin Hunter's Warriors series.
