Class Experience

The Warrior Cats is a popular book series, together we will explore the meaning behind the names and the ideas throughout the book. Students will experience the world through the cats’ eyes while considering the broad themes of the stories — what it means to be a part of a community and the importance of perseverance when facing adversity. Whether you have read the series before or are new to it, this class will help you understand that meaning.

Students will gain an appreciation for the elements of fiction: character, plot, point of view, setting, style, and theme. They will learn to think critically about issues of respect, rules, and identity.

Each week, students will read the assigned chapters prior to class. The class will cover several chapters from the book and discuss them in-depth.This schedule will allow the learners to read (or reread) the novel while paying close attention to important ideas. Class time will be spent discussing important concepts from the assigned chapters along with related information.

By the end of the class, students will have a better understanding of the themes in "Fire and Ice" and will have developed the knowledge and skills needed to analyze literature in-depth, including critical reading and critical thinking skills.

Week 1: Chapters Prologue-6 in
Week 2: Chapters 7-12
Week 3: Chapters 13-18
Week 4: Chapters 19-24
Week 5: Chapters 25-30.
