****UPDATE: WE HAVE MOVED INTO A SPACE OF PRIMARILY ROLE-PLAY IN ALL SECTIONS OF THIS CLASS. NEW LEARNERS JOINING WILL BE INSTRUCTED IN HOW TO CREATE AN ORIGINAL CHARACTER (OC) AND THEY WILL BE TAKEN ON A TOUR OF THE TERRITORY AND INTRODUCED TO THE CLAN. CLAN MEMBERS CAN ALSO DECIDE IF SOME DAYS THEY PREFER TO HAVE A CONVERSATION ABOUT WARRIOR CATS BOOKS.

In this ongoing class we'll be coming together to have these creative and imaginative conversations. I'll be facilitating the discussion based on the interest of the students present.

Examples of things we'll be discussing are:
Who is your favorite Warrior Cat and why?
Which Warrior Cat is most like you and why?
If you were to create your own Warrior Cat character what would he/she be like?
We'll look at specific situations from the books and ask why do you think one of the Warrior Cats acted the way they did? What could they have done differently? How would that have effected the outcome?
What Clan do you think you'd be a part of and why?
If you could change anything in the series what would it be? How would that change effect the story?
What role would you take on in your clan? examples are: Warrior, Medicine cat, Deputy, and Leader.

We'll be working cooperatively to create a clan. Each student will design their own warrior cat original character.
We'll collaborate to create the clans habitat, the clans code and plan a (virtual) clan gathering.

Everyone will be given the opportunity to speak.

Students are welcomed and encouraged to share their original stories and original artwork.
Learning Goals
Students will be practicing active listening, patiently taking turns, creative thinking, cooperation and putting together cohesive thoughts in a way that others can understand.
We will allow room for respectful comments and conversations around the answers given, versus simply question and answer.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I love books and have always been a big reader. In fact, I sometimes joke that I should have been a librarian. I did work in a book store during college and assisted in the story time activities for kids. When my own daughter was learning to read, it was the Warrior Cats books that brought out her love of reading. She went from a reluctant reader to a voracious reader. I want to foster this love of reading in others and allow their creativity to take them beyond the books.
