US Grade 4 - 7
**Previous class required** Before enrolling in this class, please make sure that your learner has taken my class "Warriors Book Club: Forest of Secrets." I will be checking enrollments to ensure all enrolled students have fulfilled this requirement. This class is the fourth in a series of six classes covering the first Warriors series and completing a creative writing project. Throughout the six classes, students will read the first six Warriors books, engage in discussion about the books with their peers, and learn creative writing through project assignments. If they take each class covering the Warriors books, students will come to the end of book six having planned, outlined, and written their own short book. In this way, all six classes together function as a literature and creative writing course. The adventure continues in Rising Storm by Erin Hunter! Now that we have read book three of the Warriors series together, it's time to read book four. And now that students have done the work of building a world, building the framework, and creating an outline, they will begin the work of writing their own short books. We will follow a pattern of two weeks of book discussion, one week of sharing writing projects. The chapters they write will be a continuation of the projects they completed in the previous classes. By the end of this class, learners will have written the first five chapters of the story they have spent the last three classes planning. Session 1: discuss prologue-chapter 3 Session 2: discuss chapters 4-6 Session 3: present first chapter Session 4: discuss chapters 7-9 Session 5: discuss chapters 10-12 Session 6: present second chapter Session 7: discuss chapters 13-15 Session 8: discuss chapters 15-18 Session 9: present third chapter Session 10: discuss chapters 19-21 Session 11: discuss chapters 21-24 Session 12: present fourth chapter Session 13: discuss chapters 25-27 Session 14: discuss chapters 27-30 Session 15: present fifth chapter **OPTIONAL SUPPLEMENTARY CLASS RECOMMENDATION** Each week, I host a creative writing round table for aspiring writers. As part of this round table, I offer personalized written feedback on one writing piece per student per week (provided they submit the piece 24 hours before each week's round table). If your learner would like more feedback on their chapters beyond what I can provide in this class, I recommend they join this weekly round table. I also have a one-on-one writing mentorship available if your learner would like even more personalized assistance with their writing. Both classes can be found on my teacher profile under my available classes.
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to talk about the books they are reading with other people. They will also get practice both writing and providing constructive criticism on each other's writing.
