Join us for this book club involving all things WARRIORS! In this weekly book club, we will be discussing the books from the Warriors series by Erin Hunter. During this first installment of the book club, we will be reading the first book in the series, "Into the Wild". The Warriors series are a literary phenomenon and best-selling series! We will read about four clans of cats who have shared a forest for generations. With elements of danger, heroism, good vs. evil, mystery, and prophecy, you will be hooked from page 1! We will be discussing basic questions (reading comprehension) up through higher-order thinking questions (inferring, predicting, debating, creating, judging, supporting, comparing/contrasting). Students will be encouraged to share their own opinions and thoughts, and to generate productive conversation if/when they differ with others. We will practice being respectful with each other at all times. Students will be encouraged to create thought-provoking questions of their own to add to the conversation! Please read Chapters 1-4 before our first class! If you are joining on short notice, feel free to join us anyway, and catch up on reading after class! Students may feel free to grab the book, catch up on reading, and join our class at any point in the 6 week duration.
Learning Goals
Students will demonstrate comprehension of text by responding to basic recall questions.
Students will develop a love of literature through reading for enjoyment.
Students will answer higher-order thinking questions to become creative thinkers and better problem solvers.
Students will use respectful language, tone, and mannerisms to communicate during disagreements.
