Modifications include plots, situations, and weapons are borrowed from Erin Hunter's Warrior Cat series(es) as well as popular pop-culture imagery that includes references to Gravity Falls, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Wings of Fire, and more! An outline of each session is as follows: () Introduction - Time before the lesson will be used to pre-teach any important information and remind students of the parameters of the class such as the use of respectful language; name-calling, cursing, and expressing deliberately offensive opinions will result in the learner's removal from the session and/or class. () Reaping - Learners select two cannon or original characters for their district. () Simulation - The facilitator and/or student(s) will read the simulation events with learners adding in details as they become applicable. The facilitator will address the different perspectives of cannon and original characters as backstories, descriptions and pictures are always welcome. Time is also set aside as needed to discuss any situations that arise that may need extra discussion or clarification. ** BrantSteele disclaimer for the regular Hunger Game Simulation states: "Due to the nature of this Hunger Games simulator, we require all users to be 13 years or older. If you are under 13, you agree to have parental guidance due to the violent nature." *** Though modifications have been made to the BrantSteele Hunger Game Simulator to exclude all extreme violence, mild warrior cat situations are included, and the titles of events (such as the Reaping and Bloodbath) remain untouched.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Janie. I am a graduate of Charleston Southern University with a Bachelors in Elementary Education and History, and was certificated in Elementary, Early Childhood, and Early Childhood Special Education. As a member of Learning for Justice, I am up-to-date on current issues and best teaching practices in order to align my classroom to inform accurate details in a fun learning environment where children and youth feel respected, valued and welcome participants. In my 15-year career, I have worked with children aged one to ten. I believe that children do not care what you know until they know that you care, and that real learning occurs somewhere between laughter, smiles and mess.
The goal in my sessions is to engage students in topics of their interest through discussion, storytelling, and creativity to encourage authentic learning of the material and an appreciation of others. Questions and comments as well as topic-related pictures, items, and other creative means are always welcome. I LOVE to crochet and I have a passion for Science-Fiction/Fantasy, history and all things Warrior Cats.
