1 in-class hoursClass Experience
This class is loosely based on the biography "Who Was Walt Disney?" by Whitney Stewart written for ages 8 to 12. Students are not required to read the book but are recommended to investigate it independently as a possible source for further information after class. First I will describe my perception of Disney's impact on my life. Then students will describe what Disney's impact on them has been thus far. I will present on Disney's childhood using the events described in the autobiography. Students will be encouraged to make personal connections to the material and infer how Disney's early life inspired the decisions he would later make. Class will focus on Disney's rise to stardom and subsequent achievements. Students will be asked for cultural and world connections. Students will reflect how life would be different without Disney's contributions. The goals of this class are for students to relate to Disney as a child and consider the steps he took to achieve his dreams.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Born in Lima, Peru. American through and through! I will be forever grateful to my parents for agreeing to raise me in a bilingual manner! My training includes teaching certification from the State of Connecticut and a master's degree in speech-language pathology. I have worked for a local school district for 5 years continuously, and for two different states for the past two year online. I have also had the privilege of teaching English on an individual basis online for a total of two years. Currently I work in the schools and am home due to the temporary shutdown.
I wholeheartedly believe that teaching individually or small groups is my calling! My main interest in teaching is identifying a student's strengths and assisting with goal-setting. "One small step" for one person may be "one giant leap" for someone else! (Thanks Neil Armstrong!)
My interests are wide but in general my preference would be to make classes designed for small group discussion. I have worked with many bilingual children on an individual basis, and have conducted research in language acquisition. Through my work as an online ESL teacher I have I found a deep appreciation for taking a student's strengths and interests and using this background knowledge to help them feel more comfortable embarking on new adventures. I also have found considerable flexibility in my job experience in that I could pick and choose from a variety of curriculum offerings to suit the needs of my students rather than the opposite approach. I have worked closely with special education teachers to ensure that all children in the classroom environment had the means to access the curriculum.
I have been with Outschool for 2.5 years now (I signed up long ago but technically have only started teaching as of December 13, 2017). Please feel free to send me questions or comments on anything. It's really broadened my horizons to be here and learn from all your children!
