Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 3
In this Waldorf inspired class, we will delve into the whimsical world of Paddington Bear. (A Bear called Paddington by Michael Bond) Each week in class we will light a candle and read the story together (teacher reading) and then draw pictures based on the part of the story we read. We will do some short writing to process the story, as well. Drawing will be student inspired and will be a quiet, reverent time for working. We will also recall what we read the week before and answer some comprehension questions as a group to truly process the story deeper. This is the perfect story for ages 6-8 and grades 1-2 of the Waldorf school.

I have been the school librarian and library teacher for six years at a Waldorf school. My teaching style is one of inviting students to love the books that they are reading and to truly immerse themselves in the character and story. I allow processing time through drawing and simple questions that ask readers to go a bit deeper.

The structure of each class will look the same each week (week 1-8).
Class time:
1-5 minutes recall story from week before
15 minutes reading time
10 minutes quiet drawing/writing time

Week One: Chapter 1

Week Three: Chapter 3
Week Four: Chapter 4
