Assessment
Weekly work samples are a great way to track each student’s progress. We will have a completed art work at the conclusion of each meeting, all indicating the learner’s comprehension of the material.

Class Experience

Students from all educational and artistic backgrounds are welcome! Recommended for students with some visual arts background already, but not necessarily intermediate or advanced. Each class we will make two pictures: one landscape, and one corresponding figure.

This class expands on the values and principles established in the Early Artist club, with more attention to detail and technique. There are a few additional expectations as well; participants should be comfortable operating their own mute button. For the optimal experience, please remain muted unless you are sharing directly!

As a former Waldorf teacher, there is nothing I miss more than guiding students through the beautiful art work aesthetic of this learning approach. This weekly meet up will guide early artists through a different Waldorf- themed image; always in harmony with the current season. Young artists will practice and develop an innate comprehension of color while allowing their creativity to flourish through this stunning imagery. This is an interactive, instructional class with an intentionally serene approach. There will be some incorporation of form drawing but the bulk of this class will be emphasis on the imagery as well as the intentional, slow mood.

Examples of class plans will vary from week to week, depending on season and student choice. Participants are welcome to drop in at any time! Course plans include but are not limited to:

Week 1
Tuesday December 21st
Desert + Lizard
desert landscape focusing on the resilience of cacti and and rock formations. Figure of a lizard, using the letter “L” as the foundation for it’s body shape.

Week 2
Tuesday December 28th
Rainforest + Frog
rainforest landscape emphasizing the layers of plant life. Figure of a frog using the letter “F” as the foundation of its body shape.

Week 3
Tuesday January 4th
Rock formations + eagle
rocky terrain landscape examining height and texture. Figure of an eagle using the letter “E” as the foundation of its body shape

Week 4
Tuesday January 11th
Cave on water + manatee
sea cove landscape working with depth and darkness. Figure of a manatee using the letter “M” as the foundation of its body shape
Learning Goals
Comprehension of basic art techniques and vocabulary will be approached in a gentle, organic way. Students will experience and appreciate their art supplies and colors through orderly experimentation and shared experiences. Participants will enhance their fine motor skills while allowing their imaginations to drift as needed.

Hello, Art enthusiasts! I am a multi-disciplinary artist working in New York City. As a teaching artist, I have been working in Public school in-school residency programs for the past nineteen years(!)...most recently with a concentration in Visual Arts. Many of these partnerships involved very direct coordination with students’ academic teachers, so that the Art projects enriched comprehension. I prioritize recyclable materials, and their environmental importance. I have extensions experience with literacy, and STEM-based residencies, in particular.

Over the past few years I have worked with every age, from early childhood to high school. I have seen first hand, how the affects of arts education through residency partnerships transform and enhance students’ lives. I am often very inspired by the creativity and commitment young students bring to these projects. In addition to Visual Art, I teach music composition, ‘Cello, and Guitar.

I am an alumna of the Juilliard School and the Teaching Artist Project. My supporting teacher experience at the Rudolph Steiner School in Manhattan combines Waldorf ideology with these other skills. I am on the NYC DOE substitute teacher roster. This mixture of public and private practice has prepared me to serve students from a wide range of backgrounds.

I try to incorporate physical balance into art making, often a skill that is considered “inactive”. Over the past two years my mindful Art workshops have been requested by public schools and administrative teams across NYC. I have worked extensively with groups and individuals on the spectrum, and as a Visual Art Consultant for students dealing with trauma.

I am a 2020 Legacy Arts Project recipient, and recently received the New York City Arts in Education Roundtable Teaching Artist Grant.
