Welcome to "Waldorf Handwork: Crafting, Storytelling & Creativity" - a dynamic and engaging class designed for children aged 7-10. This course blends Waldorf-inspired handwork activities with imaginative storytelling, creating a rich, educational experience. We meet twice weekly for 45 minutes. The first day is dedicated to introducing a craft activity and its associated story. On the second day, we revisit the story and continue or complete our project. Fine Motor Skills Development: Through hands-on craft activities, learners will improve their dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and precision.] Understanding of Craft Techniques: Learners will learn fundamental techniques related to various crafts such as finger knitting, wet felting, basic sewing, and more. Creativity and Imagination: The narrative elements of the class aim to inspire creativity and imaginative thinking. As learners participate in crafting activities, they're encouraged to infuse their unique ideas and styles into their projects. Sequencing and Project Completion: Over the course of the week, learners will learn to follow a sequence of actions to complete a project, reinforcing their understanding of project-based tasks and enhancing their sense of accomplishment. Listening and Comprehension Skills: The storytelling aspect of the course will develop learners' listening skills and narrative comprehension. Cognitive Development: By correlating stories with hands-on activities, learners will enhance their cognitive development, understanding the connection between abstract concepts and tangible outcomes. Patience and Focus: Craft activities require patience and focus. Over time, learners will learn the value of taking their time to do a task well and pay attention to detail. Appreciation for Handwork: One of the broader goals is to develop an appreciation for handwork and the satisfaction that comes from creating something tangible.
Here is a comprehensive list of materials. Each week you will only need a few of them. We will provide the materials list for the following week if you are already enrolled, and if you are a new learner we will send you the list upon enrolment. - A ball of chunky or bulky yarn - Wool roving in various colors - Warm water - Soap - Towel - Natural materials such as twigs, leaves, pebbles, and pinecones - Craft materials like glue, cardboard, and colored paper - Lacing cards - Yarn or shoelaces - Pre-cut felt shapes - Buttons - Plastic needle - Clear glass or plastic jar - Tissue paper in various colors - Sushi mat or bubble wrap for rolling - Pre-cut felt pieces for the pouch - Thread
Please note that adult supervision may be necessary during certain activities for safety, particularly when using scissors or when working with warm water. Be sure to prepare the space for crafting activities to be easy to clean, especially during wet felting weeks.
