Class Experience

US Grade 2
Welcome to Ms. Jodi's library classroom!

Can anyone catch an escaping "Gingerbread Man" fresh from the oven? "You can't catch me, I'm the Gingerbread Man!"....or will someone catch him in the end?

All reading levels and ESL students are welcome in this class. I will read the story as the students look at the pictures on screen share. We will also have some creative visualization/drawing time after the story to process and we will write two sentences from the story together. My teaching style is gentle, patient, and flowing with rhythm so that students know what to expect in each class and can relax into learning. This is the perfect class for grades one and two.

Please provide drawing paper and crayons (beeswax stick and block crayons, if available) for your student for this class.

Class structure:
~Light story candle
~Read The Gingerbread Man by Eric Kimmel
~Draw a Gingerbread Man
~Write (teacher-led, copy) sentences from the story

Welcome to Ms. Jodi’s library!

After working as a school librarian at a private school in rural Pennsylvania, I am now a library and reading teacher here on Outschool. I ran three libraries at the Waldorf school where I worked: elementary/middle school, high school, and faculty libraries. I taught library classes for grades 1-12 where I would read aloud books, give writing assignments, teach research, and give book recommendations. I also ordered all the books, cultivating a rich and diverse collection for each age group. I ran after school Reading Olympic book clubs for elementary, middle, and high school students. With my Waldorf faculty background, I love to work with my students as a "whole" person seeing what they need on an individual basis. I had the experience of being mentored by Waldorf teachers with over forty years experience in the art of Waldorf teaching. I worked with every grade and class teacher and was often the main lesson substitute go to or support teacher for many class teachers at the Waldorf school.

I have taught library skills, research, cyber civics, first grade rest time and creative writing. I have also taught ESL for several years online, working with international students ages 3-14 on leveled reading, grammar, and phonics classes. I also worked in the Waldorf kindergarten as an aftercare teacher.

I hold a certificate from Yale in Overcoming Dyslexia. I also hold a Bachelors of Science in Psychology, TESOL, TOEFL primary and am a Licensed Rapid Transformational Therapy Practitioner.
I also have Masters coursework in Human Services-Marriage and Family Counseling (2 years), Library Science (1 year), and Accounting (2 years).

The main purpose of my work is to reflect a love for reading to my students and to develop their confidence so they want to keep trying. I bring enthusiasm, gentleness, creativity, and love to students when teaching or tutoring.

I am also a mother of two amazing kids who are now young adults! I homeschooled my children using the Waldorf curriculum for many years. Our family also includes two sweet and crazy rescue kitties named Flopps and Holly who are wont to appear in classes from time to time.
