Anything that can help children to relax is positive! Yoga and mindfulness are proven ways to help children to connect to their bodies, reduce anxiety, become more present and peaceful in the moment, and increase focus and attention span. In this class, we will begin by connecting with one animal such as bear, whale, cat, bird, dolphin, or rabbit. We will look at some books with beautiful images of the animal and learn some interesting things about the animal to keep in mind during our movement practice (example: whales like to sing!) in the beginning of each class. We will then practice yoga or movement to gently bring us to a calm and peaceful space and connection. We may move like an animal would move and then during a relaxation time we will repeat affirmations or focus on our breathing. We reflect on the animal in this time to allow the learner to easily bring up their affirmation and feeling of calm throughout the day. We will also spend some time drawing to process artistically the animal we are connecting to. Students can join this class at any point in time as our work will not build on previous weeks.
