Description

Class Experience

Students will learn movement techniques that empower them to take control of their learning, their emotions, and their attention.
The movements presented each day of the week will center around these skills:
Week 1: focus training
Week 2: attention to detail and cross-body integration
Week 3: emotional regulation
Week 4: patterns and mathematical thinking
Week 5: lasting change through practice and success
Ms Annika is a physical therapist who specializes in adapting movement patterns to individual students' needs. Through her work, she has developed an arsenal of movements that train the brain to improve communication and effective functioning through practice and fun-filled, high-energy dances.
First week homework: Journal in the classroom dashboard what goals you have for your four weeks in this class. I will respond detailing which exercise to practice more than others or which breathing technique to utilize in anxiety-provoking situations. If there are other learners registered for your section, you will all have access to the classroom dashboard to answer and respond to each other's questions, give suggestions, and offer encouragement. This journaling will be the springboard for discussion, correction, encouragement, and further investigation.
Second week homework: Journal in the classroom dashboard what challenges you had in meeting your goals using movement. I will respond with corrections, words of encouragement, or modifications. Because you will be typing in the classroom dashboard, your fellow classmates can offer support and advice, as well. Students will have interaction in the classroom dashboard.
Third week homework: Journal in the classroom dashboard what successes you have had in meeting your goals using movement. When are you using our techniques? How do they make you feel? Do you need a reminder to do them? You will be able to interact with your fellow classmates and see their successes and challenges and offer encouragement and get ideas for your own practice!
Fourth week homework: You are now an expert in Wake Your Brain! Your homework will be to teach your family a movement or a breath technique or a balance posture that really works for you. Ask them how they feel after practicing with you and journal about it on our classroom dashboard. Let's make a BIG list of all the ways Wake Your Brain works!

You just need a little bit of space and an open mind to try new things. Some students like to have a water bottle handy and bring a yoga mat for the floor work. Parent supervision is necessary to ensure safety during at-home exercise classes. Please be sure the space is free from clutter, including baby brothers and puppies.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
No live meetings, and maybe some time outside of class.
Appropriate parental supervision is required for all exercise classes.
