Class Experience

US Grade 6 - 9
I encourage a fun and challenging learning atmosphere, where everyone can participate and take turns, and (most importantly) where all learners feel comfortable to discuss their ideas. Some of the class will be teacher led, in a "fun" type of lecture format, but other things such as videos, slides, interactive activities, etc... may be incorporated. We'll explore historic Electoral College results and discuss/debate more controversial elections that changed the scope of the red/blue state election night game.

Prior knowledge= it would be advantageous if learners knew aspects of the Legislative branch, specifically that there is a House of Representatives (435 members, depending on population of each state) and the Senate (with 100 members, 2 for every state).

Learning Goals

-be able to describe how the electoral college works, to determine who wins the U.S. presidency.
-debate the effectiveness of the electoral college
