Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
This course is designed for silly, goofy, sometimes gross, but always awesome writers!
Join me weekly for wacky prompts, kooky visual aids, and witty word boxes to inspire hilarious short stories while practicing creative writing and language skills. Laugh your way to fluent writing, confident speaking, and wily creativity.
Class will begin with a silly word of the day and it's meaning.
Before we go on, I will share strategies for planning and pre-writing a story including mapping story elements, outlining problem and solution, and creating a sequence chain using words or pictures.
Then, we will jump right into the week's prompts. These will be either a beginning sentence, a set of visual aids, or a word box that students will be using to create their story.
Watch out! I might throw in a trick or two after writing has begun to really challenge my clever learners.
Students will have approximately 20 minutes to develop, write, and/or illustrate their short, three to five sentence story.
Next, it's story-time! Learners can read their stories to the group for an opportunity to practice those public speaking skills, but there will be no pressure on reluctant sharers.
Please note that the point of this class is for learners to receive the prompts and come up with a story during class using their imagination, sense of humor, and quick wit. Because of this, I do not post prompts here in the description or in the classroom prior to class. Please view the class video for an example of prompts.
I can't wait to hear the wacky stories your learner comes up with!

Hello! My name is Rebecca and I LOVE teaching! I have a Bachelor of Science in Education and am in the process of earning my Master of Science in Reading Education. I love creating and adapting my own curricula to make learning engaging and fun for the virtual learner and believe that providing interactive, organized, and thoughtful instruction in a supportive environment can pave the way for even the most hesitant student. It is my philosophy that learning happens in many ways, so, naturally, teaching should, too! My classes incorporate a variety of teaching tools to provide for different learning styles.
