Class Experience
Students will: - learn safe, effective ways to warm up for volleyball - practice the volleyball-ready position - develop and practice correct techniques for passing, setting, hitting and serving - discover ways to improve hand-eye coordination - practice exercises that improve footwork - learn ways to continue practicing techniques at home
I played competitive volleyball for 9 years including 4 years in college. I coached middle and high school volleyball for 2 years.
Students are encouraged to continue to practice skills at home.
2 tennis balls (or similar small balls that bounce) volleyball (or a similar ball that bounces) large open space (large room, garage, driveway, backyard) ONE of the following: elastic/resistance bands OR a jump rope OR a line to jump over athletic wear water bottle *For some exercises, it will be beneficial for the student to have an off-screen partner to toss/catch the ball.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Each student will receive individual verbal feedback on form, position and technique as we progress through the activities. For this reason, it is important that students have their cameras turned on for the duration of each class.
2 hours 15 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
This class requires physical activity. Students will need an open workout space such as a large room, garage, driveway or backyard. Athletic shoes with closed toes are required and a water bottle is recommended. Students will be led through warm-ups and stretching exercises during class. Since learners will be engaging in physical activity, adult supervision is recommended. Each student will receive individual feedback on form, position and technique, so it is important that student cameras remain on for the duration of each class.
