Volcano Maze Design!: A Drawing Lesson for Beginners (Small Group 1st-5th)

In this 40-minute class, young artists will learn how to draw a Volcano maze design. Learners will follow step-by-step instructions throughout the lesson. Learners will need to have paper, a pencil, and an eraser for this lesson. Colored pencils, markers, or crayons are optional. This class is similar to my other maze classes.

First, the class will begin with a teacher-led review of lines and shapes. Learners will be encouraged to practice drawing lines as they watch the demonstration. Second, we will start to draw the volcano shape of our maze. Learners will be given the option to get creative with their drawings. Next, it’s time to add fun details to our mazes and learn some cool facts about volcanos!  

Learners are always welcome to ask questions throughout class time. Additional assistance will be provided to the learners when needed. Lastly, learners will have an opportunity to share their awesome maze drawings with their peers. As always, I provide a creative, relaxed environment.  

The art vocabulary terms that we will be discussing throughout the lesson: are straight, wavy, zigzag, spiral, and curved lines.  As well as the different shapes: circle, square, triangle, rectangle, oval, heart, star and organic shapes.
