Gain an introduction to volcanology through hands on science experiments, games, discussion, rock identification, and picture slideshows. Learn about the types of volcanoes and lava and what the tools are that volcanologists use to predict eruptions. Find out about some of the most interesting volcanoes in the world and learn about the igneous rocks that are formed out of lava and magma. Play World Volcanoes Bingo at the end of the first class, and don't forget to build your own volcano at home so that we can erupt our volcanoes together at the end of our last class! At the beginning of each class, there will be an opportunity for introductions, sharing, and guided discussion. Students may bring items to class to share related to volcanoes such as rocks, crystals, fossils, geodes, books, or artwork.
