Homework
2-4 hours per week. Students are expected to practice 2-4 hours per week depending on the student. Practice does not always mean singing, it can mean learning about the music as a whole. We will learn effective practice habits in our lessons to make every minute count.
Assessment
The teacher will write notes and base lessons on notes from previous lessons. There will not be a formal assessment process but there will be a self-reflection process throughout the lesson and especially after performances.

Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 8
Beginner - Advanced Level
Through private voice lessons, your singer will learn to sing with confidence in a way that is healthy and sustainable. We will do this through tailored vocal exercises and exciting song choices. Your student may choose to learn a variety of styles or choose just one. Ms Abbigail is classically trained and has years of experience teaching and performing popular styles. We will establish long-term and short-term singing goals together. Each lesson will be focused on what the student would like to work on that day, and then the lesson will be tailored to those goals. Students will be encouraged to participate in some sort of performance of the music learned in lessons. While not required, this is a very important step in the learning process. This takes all the skills we learn in lessons and puts them into practice. Performance is a skill. It takes time and effort to get good at it. For learners who are uneasy about performance, we will start with performing for people the student is most comfortable with and work our way towards more people over time. I understand how hard it is to get the courage to share your hard work. It can be terrifying and I want to be there to walk your student through that. Together, we can work towards healthy singing, confident performance, and well-rounded musicianship.

Learning Goals

Students will establish healthy vocal techniques, effective practice skills, and gain confidence in singing around others.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
We often use YouTube videos as a source for lyrics and accompaniment. The use of YouTube is not required but it will mean that the student must supply their own source of accompaniment and lyrics. This may mean printing the lyrics ahead of time and having a separate device that can play the songs we are working on.
Supply List
Each student will need the following:
-pencil and paper to write notes
-water
-quiet room to sing and freely move about in.
- a device to play music on for accompaniment. For ease of use, we often use YouTube for both accompaniment and lyric sources. If there is concern with YouTube, you can also choose to print lyrics and supply another device to play accompaniment music on.
-For best quality audio, I highly recommend using a desktop or laptop computer to take voice lessons on. Zoom audio settings are not as easily altered on a tablet and are not recommended.
