Hi, I’m Demetria- a singer/songwriter and independent artist who enjoys spreading positive messages of overcoming hardships and finding joy. I was trained classically in piano beginning at age 9, but quickly began to pick up on a new style and learned to play gospel music, jazz and blues chords by ear. Because I found freedom in expression through improvisation, I became completely passionate about learning the piano at an early age. Singing and playing the piano has been a part of my life for the past three decades and continues to be a source of joy for me. I have now been a singer and songwriter for over thirty years and have been involved in many showcases- singing and playing piano for local events, weddings, and church services. I have also taught basic music theory in homeschool groups and in private lessons. While in college, I was a member of the African American Gospel Choir (affectionately known as the “Afros” at the University of Alabama). Additionally, I continue to further my education through the Music Teachers National Association and learning about the Orff and Kodaly methods. I believe that we are all capable of expressing artistry through music and that it takes no special skill or talent to be able to appreciate and enjoy our inherent connection to music. However, it is my goal to help your student learn to grow in musicality and vocal skill. I also offer piano classes here on Outschool. I look forward to meeting and working with your students!
