Assessment
The student will receive written feedback after every class.Class Experience
**In this longer format class, students should have prior voice lesson experience or extensive musical theatre/solo singing experience. Students new to voice lessons should enroll in "Vocalize! Ongoing Singing Lessons for Singers".** In this class, students will learn how to singing healthfully and with their best voice. The class ratio is 1:1. Exercises and song choices will be tailored to the individual needs of the each student. Students will have a specific goal/performance in mind for this format of lessons. Each week will build on material and skills learned in previous lessons. Students will spend time in class using technique building exercises and songs, either chosen by the teacher or suggested by the student, to apply the skills learned in the lesson to performance. The format of every lesson is to complete vocal exercises for the first half of the lesson and to work on the assigned songs in the second half. This may be in the form of exercises tailored exactly to the song(s) being learned in the lesson. Overall, there are no mistakes in singing, only learning opportunities. I strive to teach my students to sing healthfully with their best voice while maintaining a respect for accomplished singers, both past and present. The teaching of singing involves a holistic approach in terms of voice, mind, body, intellect, interests, and goals. I strive to foster confidence, creativity, and self-expression in my students. Vocal exercises and songs are assigned to address these needs. Students must play an active role in their voice instruction, and understand for what purpose exercises and songs are assigned in order to promote future independence as a musician. All instruction adheres to the Code of Ethics set forth by the National Association of Teachers of Singing (of which I am a member), and am committed to providing the best in vocal music education to my students. The first three lessons follow a slightly different format (the dates are for example ONLY): Lesson 1 (01/04/2021): Introduction // Posture Lesson 2 (01/11/2021): Breathing // Pitch and Tone Lesson 3 (01/18/2021): Pitch and Tone // Music Assignment Lessons 4 + (01/25/2021 and continuing): The format of every lesson 4+ is to complete vocal exercises for the first half of the lesson and to work on the assigned songs in the second half. This may be in the form of exercises tailored exactly to the song(s) being learned in the lesson. 1:1 voice lessons are student directed in terms of progress and practice. I look forward to working with your student in a supportive and creative environment.
