Description
Class Experience
In this fun four-day camp, students will be singing while learning the basics of spontaneous a cappella composition based on principles of vocal improvisation: listening, unison, harmony, rhythm, language, and cadence. They will create individual songs using the digital audio workstation (DAW), Garageband. They will share their completed songs with each other on the last day of the camp. 1. Students will learn the basic interface for recording on GarageBand. 2. Students will learn about principles of vocal improvisation: listening, unison, harmony, rhythm, language, and cadence. 3. Students will learn how to layer musical motifs to build a vocal composition.
Students have the option to provide additional tracks to their individual recordings in between class sessions.
1. Mac computer with GarageBand installed. The Mac operating system must be 10.11 (El Capitan) or later. 2. Headphones that are compatible with your Mac computer. 3. A quiet environment where you can record with minimal to zero background noise.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
- GarageBand
3 hours 20 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
