Guten Tag! In this class, you'll learn how to make good educated guesses when you encounter a new German word. You’ll get… + a 25-minute video that teaches you the skills you need to become an expert educated guesser in German + slides that guide you through 20 mini practice sessions + a handy reference sheet + the opportunity to ask me any questions that come up as you do the work Read below for more details. I’d love for you to complete the training! --Dr. Jennifer ------ There are so many interesting correspondences between German and English. Some are pretty obvious, like… die Hand, hand die Pflanze, plant die Laterne, lantern But some are a bit more hidden, like… das Girokonto, checking account der Ellenbogen, elbow sich fürchten, to be afraid In this class, you’ll learn to undercover hidden correspondences quickly. You’ll become an excellent educator guesser! We will discuss and practice skills such as these: 1) splitting the word into parts 2) concentrating on the consonants 3) working with consonant pairs such as t/d, p/b, k/g 4) working with other sound correspondences I’m really excited to share these skills with you! Note: This class is offered in Outschool’s self-paced format. There are no live class meetings on Zoom. Instead, you’ll download a video and a slide presentation that you can work on at your own pace. The class offers approximately 45 minutes of learning material. ----- If you’re interested in a full year’s worth of German studies, see also my year-long German 1 class, my year-long German 2 class, and my various self-paced class options. Send me a message if you have questions or would like a copy of my “German for High Schoolers” information sheet.

I have been teaching German, composition, and arts & humanities for more than 25 years, and I speak German with near-native fluency. I have a PhD in German Literature and was the 2014 Indiana German Collegiate Teacher of the Year. I was a professor of German for 16 years and have homeschooled my own son. I bring first-rate content knowledge and pedagogical expertise to the online classroom, plus a genuine love of working with young learners.
Because I have extensive experience at the college level, I know just where high school students are headed and can expertly guide them as they prepare themselves for the next step. My focus on learning strategies and study skills is an added benefit, useful for any learner.
