US Grade 6 - 9
The acquisition of academic vocabulary is crucial for learning new words that can be invaluable when writing paragraphs, essays, and speaking on all grade levels. I will introduce 15 new words (per week) each time this course is listed. Therefore, students can feel free to enroll multiple times in this course since words will not be repeated. Words I have chosen are useful and essential academic words used amongst peers, adults, and on standardized testing from elementary to college entrance exam time. Classes are divided into two segments. To begin with, students will be given a word ladder of 5 new words to unscramble using my Power Point presentation. Answers & definitions will be confirmed and revealed after approx. 10 minutes. For the remainder of the class, students will participate in a related game that will help to reinforce the new definitions and use the words in context correctly. Games will include, but not be limited to playing, concentration, bingo, and escape room. On some days, students will construct a short vocabulary story to demonstrate usage and understanding too. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ CURRENT LESSON SEQUENCE BELOW: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ``````````````````````````````````````````````````` UPCOMING SCHEDULE 2023 ``````````````````````````````````````````````````` LESSON 1 - taught during JUNE - AUG. 13 LESSON 2 - starts approx.
