The acquisition of academic vocabulary is a necessity for all students. Learning new words can be invaluable when writing paragraphs, essays, and speaking on all grade levels. This ongoing course will be presented once a week and will introduce ten new words with corresponding definitions. After pronouncing and reviewing the definitions, students will have an opportunity to complete related WORD WORK EXERCISES related to synonyms, antonyms, homophones, homographs, blends, prefixes, suffixes and much more.
Since this is an ongoing course, students may join and leave the course at any time. But this course will require one workbook entitled "240 VOCABULARY WORDS KIDS NEED TO KNOW" by Scholastic for grade 5 which is listed in the materials section. The workbook is required and needed to complete the 16-class sessions each time we meet. There are 3 pages per lesson in the workbook. Please note: I will only complete 16 out of the 24 lessons in workbook which I feel will be most significant to do.
