Each day we will work on a different part of our storybook, while discussing certain elements and principles of design. We will learn some of the parts of a book, such as the front cover and back cover, title page, frontis piece and copyright page. We will discuss the composition and layout of each page and how it fits with the text. We will learn how to design a character or an environment and how they will fit into our compositions. If the learner is using a text that is not an original, then we will discuss how to make it their own. At the end of the week, learners will have a complete illustrated storybook.
Learning Goals
Students will learn the parts of a book, many of the elements and principles of design, arranging images and text and developing their imagination!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I am Deanna from Mississauga, Ontario!
I am a lifelong learner with an interest in all areas of the arts, logic and philosophy.
I studied theatre & film at McMaster University where I enjoyed designing costumes, writing scripts working with lights and props and analyzing films.
I took elective courses in art and music history and minored in philosophy. I always enjoy a solid debate! Listening to all perspectives and questioning everything you think you know are extremely important to how I operate and teach.
After graduating I continued on to OCAD University where I majored in illustration. I work mostly in oil paint and create whimsical and often bizarre surrealist paintings. You will find me at Art shows and markets throughout the year.
I grew up drawing and playing the piano. I completed my grad 8 piano, music theory and history with the Royal Conservatory of Music and I am a full-time private piano teacher.
In my spare time you'll find me playing board games, solving logic puzzles or creating orchestral compositions.
I absolutely love to learn and believe there is always something new to discover. If only there was more time! I hope I can inspire my students to feel as passionate about learning as I do!
