In this one time course, students will learn about the Central American Volcanic Arc, the geography of the region, and experience a volcano and animals through sight and sound.

Class Experience

In this course students will:
- Learn what countries in Central America have volcanoes
- Investigate how eruptions of lava and ash lead to the formation of volcanoes over time, and learn about the significance of volcanoes to Central American indigenous cultures
- Explore other indigenous history and traditions
- View some native animals of the region
The instructor has a PhD in Latin American Studies and has taught introductory courses in the subject for six years, including a version that meets Louisiana state educational standards in Social Studies.
No homework is given for this one-time class. If students want to learn even more, they are welcome to enroll in one of my longer courses or sign up for an independent project with me!
No materials need to be purchased.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Students will participate in a brief self-assessment at the beginning and end of the one-session class.
55 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Colonization and loss of animal habitat may come up.
