①Immerse yourself in Okinawa’s distinctive culture, blending influences from Japan, China, and Southeast Asia, and learn about its fascinating history as the Ryukyu Kingdom.
②Explore Okinawa’s breathtaking landscapes, from pristine beaches and coral reefs to lush forests and dramatic cliffs, and discover the island's natural wonders.
③Learn about the legacy of the Battle of Okinawa, one of the bloodiest conflicts of World War II, and its impact on the island’s history, people, and culture.
④Delve into Okinawa’s unique traditions
⑤Discover the flavors of Okinawan cuisine, renowned for its fresh seafood, unique ingredients like goya (bitter melon), and iconic dishes such as Okinawa soba and taco rice.
⑥Discuss the challenges and opportunities facing Okinawa today, from environmental conservation and sustainable tourism to preserving its cultural heritage and promoting economic development.

★ Date & Time: July 20th, Saturday at 10:00 to 10:50 am EST (and additional dates if there is enough interest)
★ Platform: The class will be conducted using Zoom, YouTube, and Google Slides for an immersive and interactive learning experience.
★ Assessment: After the class, there will be an assessment to test your understanding and knowledge of Okinawa’s culture, history, and contemporary issues.
★ Series Information: This class is part of our “A Look at Japan” series, covering various regions including Tokyo, Hokkaido, Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima & Nagasaki, and Kyushu. Future classes may explore additional regions such as Nara, Shikoku, Mt. Fuji, Yokohama, Nikko, Niigata, and Tohoku, depending on interest.
