Welcome to a Look at Okinawa! In this course, we will be discussing the history of Okinawa as one of the more newer prefectures of Japan. Your student will learn all about Okinawan culture, food, traditions, language and more!

Class Experience

  • Students will learn about the rich and diverse culture of Okinawa.
  • Students will learn basic phrases of the Ryukyu dialect.
  • Students will learn about Okinawa's sad but vibrant history; especially it's involvement in World War II.
  • Students will come into better understanding of how Okinawa is very different in a wide variety of aspects when compared to the rest of Japan.
I am a teacher of the Japanese language, majored in Asian Studies, and lived in Japan for 12 years. Therfore, I have intimate knowledge of Japanese culture, customs, geography, language, traditions, and more.

Details: There will be a Google Form that is to be filled out following the end of class and can be submitted up to 5 days after the class finishes.
