Students will gain understanding about things to do, foods to try, and landmarks to see in China. Students will also gain a deeper understanding of Chinese culture.
I lived and worked in China for one year during 2017. My husband is Chinese. He was born and raised in Shanghai, China. He speaks Mandarin Chinese as his first language. We have many friends and family members who currently live in China. Every location discussed in this class is a place that we have visited together.
2 hours 45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
There are a number of political and human rights issues occurring in China at the moment. However, these topics will not be discussed in class. I will not answer any questions about the political situation in China. The focus of the class is about travel, food, things to do, and culture in China.
Personal travel is experience from living and traveling in China for 1 year. Interviews with people from China who are from the places covered during class. Personal experience visiting the Great Wall, Forvidden City, Shanghai, etc. Personal experience living in with Chinese family for over 5 years. My knowledge of Chinese food comes from personal experience preparing and eating the foods that will be discussed in class.
