Description
Class Experience
I have had the good fortune of being able to pass Ellis Island in daily commutes, visit her halls that echo with the voices of the past, as well as be a descendant of an immigrant who not only passed through her doors, but who also worked there for many years thereafter. Ellis Island is very much a part of who I am, inasmuch as it is for so many other Americans. Later, during my graduate studies, I concentrated on adolescent education in Social Studies, which brought me right back to Ellis Island, as I sought ways to incorporate this local resource into Place Based Educational experiences for students.
1 hour per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Students will be provided with numerous resources from the Ellis Island Foundation/ Museum, Scholastic, The New York Times Archives Further source material comes from the Library of Congress, American Passage, and PBS.
