Class Experience

In this class, we will be discussing different building techniques students can use in Sims, specifically Sims 4. I will have my game screen up and visible to all students, and they will provide suggestions for what should be built next. Students are encouraged (but not required) to have their own Sims game (preferably Sims 4) running so they can construct their own designs! I have various expansion packs I will be using, but none of these are necessary. Students can build everything I will build with the base game, but things may look slightly different (different wall and floor patterns, different furniture available, etc.). I will show students a town of buildings I have designed as inspiration for them to create their own buildings! We will discuss aspects of the buildings they like, and what they would do differently in their own building.
Learning Goals
Students will gather new ideas for designing and building in Sims.
Students will share their ideas and opinions in a respectful way with others.
Students will discuss their opinions on different designs in Sims.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
The Sims 4 is rated "T" for teen. This game will focus strictly on building and designing houses--there will be no creating of Sims (the people in the game), so there will be no partial nudity of the characters as outfits are chosen for them, etc. as a class. There will also be no personal or romantic interactions of Sims in our class, although students can later play in "live" mode and play with their sims.
Supply List
Students may want to have access to Sims 4, although it is not necessary. They can watch and learn from my screen, and share their opinions through Zoom and through the Zoom chat.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello all! I'm so excited to get to know you and see you in the classroom! I have 7 years of teaching experience and love to teach all ages and subjects. I have my M.Ed in teaching, and most of my teaching experience is in upper elementary and ESL education. Classes I offer include French, writing, life skills, Harry Potter, elementary science and math. If there is a class you're interested in that isn't scheduled, please shoot me a message so we can work something out!
Everything I do in the classroom stems from the belief that every child can learn. I also believe that my job as a teacher is first to keep my students safe (physically, emotionally, etc.), then to help them learn, then to help them have fun. I try to make my classes as fun as possible to keep students engaged because I really believe learning can be enjoyable!
